In 2012, Goobjoog Media Group (GMG) was founded with a clear vision: to become Somalia’s premier media house that would not only inform but also empower and unite. We began as a modest operation, keen on filling the gap in credible and balanced journalism in Somalia. Our initial foray into the media landscape was marked by the launch of Goobjoog News, a premier online news outlet in both Somali and English coverages, and Goobjoog FM, a radio station committed to providing “edutainment” – a blend of education and entertainment – and critical news to foster social engagement for a stable and prosperous Somali community.

As we grew, our ambition to reach a wider audience led to the expansion of our portfolio. In 2016, we introduced Goobjoog TV, extending our reach across Africa and Asia via satellite, and cementing our commitment to balanced and authoritative reporting on local, regional, and international affairs. This move was pivotal in establishing our presence not just in Somalia but as a voice in the Horn of Africa and beyond.

Recognizing the power of sports in bringing people together, we strategically acquired Gool FM, tapping into the vibrant world of sports broadcasting. Gool FM quickly became the home of sports in Mogadishu and a favorite among the youth, providing insights into both local and international sports events.

Our commitment to social responsibility led to the birth of impactful initiatives like the Cosob Initiative, an environmental awareness campaign, and Goobjoog Media Academy, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of Somali journalists and media professionals. The Cosob Initiative, named after the Somali word symbolizing blossoming greenery, was a response to the urgent environmental challenges facing Somalia. Also, the establishment of Goobjoog Media Academy marked a significant milestone in our journey. It wasn’t just about creating media; it was about building the future of media in Somalia. The Academy offered cutting-edge training in journalism, digital media, and broadcasting, equipping young Somalis with the skills needed in a rapidly evolving media landscape.

The growth of Goobjoog Media Group has been a story of relentless pursuit of excellence, innovation, and social responsibility. From a single radio station to a multimedia conglomerate, our evolution mirrors the changing dynamics of media and society. Today, as we reach millions across the globe, our commitment remains unwavering: to provide credible, balanced, and engaging content that not only informs but also inspires and unites. We stand as a testament to the power of media in shaping societies and as a beacon of hope and progress in Somalia and beyond.
